Floor Plans
Carlow Farm House
Located at the foot of Mount Leinster, the proposal seeks to create a four-bed family home. The design takes influence from a traditional Irish farmhouse designed around a central fireplace. The fireplace creates a focal point in both the dining and living area. Following this the building was then orientated to capture specific views of the landscape and capture natural sunlight at all times of the day.
Massing
By creating a series of interlacing blocks the overall massing of the proposal is reduced, helping the building to sit more naturally within the landscape. The series of buildings reflecting a traditional farmhouse with a number of outhouses adjacent.
Positioning
Originally it was proposed to locate the property at the highest point of the field, however, following some initial planning advice and a revised design it is proposed to position the house much lower in the field. Locating the proposal on a lower contour also creates a better relationship between the proposal and the neighbouring two-story house.
Rear of house
Curved stairs in hallway
Side of house - bi-folding doors will open out on to an external deck
Front of house, virginia creeper will be planted along the foot of the building to further soften the house and help it to sit into the landscape
